This smoothie is so thick and nutritious you can ditch the straw and grab a spoon. I don’t know about you, but I’m one for savoring each spoonful of my food over sipping it through a straw when I can.
I make my own raw milk kefir, but for those of you who that may not be an option, feel free to find your favorite store-bought replacement. Or maybe even use coconut milk kefir or a combination of coconut milk and probiotics. Kefir is not the highlight of our smoothie today. We’re going to dwell on the fatty, fibrous avocado and healing powers of collagen hydrolysate.
You’ll get about a half of an avocado in each serving of this smoothie. Yes, this makes the smoothie pretty high calorie but those calories are nutrient dense. A 100 gram serving of avocado delivers 2 grams of protein, 15 grams of monounsaturated essential fatty acids, and 9 grams of carbs – 7 of which are fiber. It also promises a quarter of your day’s intake of Vitamin K, a fifth of your day’s intake of folate, and good amounts of Vitamin C, Potassium (more than a banana), Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin E with trace amounts of other vitamins and minerals as well. This fatty fruit delivers on satiety and boosts your health.
Collagen Hydrolysate is one of the supplement powders added to this smoothie. Why is it important? Collagen makes up all of the connective tissue in your body and doesn’t reproduce as readily after the age of 25 as it did in year’s prior. By taking collagen internally, we can actually effectively absorb it. It benefits your joints, skin, nails, hair, cartilage, ligaments and even your digestive tract. The amino acids – glycine, lysine, and proline – found in collagen hydrolysate are also absorbed in about 30 minutes by the body. Your digestive tract is benefited by collagen because of its aid in increasing cellular repair rate and the fact that it binds with water to help food easily pass through it.
We like the Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate in my household. Since we dwell in Illinois, Grayslake is just a hop, skip and a jump away from our town. I love that this product is not only local, but is also high quality and grass-fed.
